Die prepaid SIM Karte von epic hatte ich noch als Vodafone SIM Karte erworben, da ein neuer Eigentümer den Mobilfunkanbieter im November 2020 übernommen hatte wurde die Marke epic in Malta eingeführt. Die Umstellung lief problemlos und ich bin weiterhin Kunde im prepaid Tarif der ohne Grundgebühr oder monatlichen Mindestumsatz einfach perfekt ist, alle Tipps zum Einsatz in der EU übersichtlich der Reihe nach.
Voraussetzungen
Man braucht ein „SIM Lock“ freies Dualband Mobiltelefon, selbstverständlich geht auch ein Triband, UMTS oder LTE Telefon. SIM Lock bedeutet, das das Telefon nur mit der SIM Karte des Telefonanbieters funktioniert, mit dem man es erworben hat. In der Regel kann diese Sperre nach 2 Jahren kostenfrei aufgehoben werden, Details beim entsprechenden Anbieter Telekom D1, Vodafone oder Telefónica Germany. Ich würde ein UMTS Telefon empfehlen, da vodafone generell ein UMTS Netz nutzt, falls keins zur Verfügung steht geht es automatisch auf ein GSM Netz zurück.Kauf als Vodafone
Die prepaid SIM Karte hatte ich damals im Dezember 2017 bei Vodafone in Malta gekauft. Die Informationen zum Kauf, Bedienungsanleitung und so weiter im kompletten Vodafone Malta Bericht. Die Vodafone Malta Ltd. wurde im April 2020 von der Monaco Telecom, dem exklusiven Telekommunikationsanbieter des Fürstentums Monaco übernommen und im November 2020 wurde die Marke epic in Malta eingeführt. Anfang Juni 2023 informierten mehrere SMS mit dem Texten wie diesen:„1/3 Dear Customer, from 03/07/23, we are updating our Roaming and International Calls/SMS rates, short codes and freephone numbers.For details visit:epicmalta.info/updates or read below: 1. Roaming rates available in 150 countries a) Traveller daily bundle now applies in more countries than ever, 90 countries, up from 76 b) Traveller will have double the data from 100MB to 200MB c) Incomming calls to become 100 minutes daily instead of unlimited minutes and charged at 25c/min therafter d) Daily rate change from € 5.99 to € 6.99 e) On Traveller, users will get 100 min daily to call to Maltese fixed and mobile numbers. Calls to fixed and mobile numbers of the visited country remain at 25c/min whilst calls to fixed and mobile numbers of other countries will be 99c/nmin instead of 25c/min f) A new Data Traveller daily bundle will be available in an additional 60 countries. Ende Oktober 2022 bekam ich eine SMS mit dem Text:„On Tuesday 1st November at 12.05am there will be a scheduled maintenance for 15 minutes to upgrade our systems. During this time the mobile internet service will not be available, however calls and SMS will be unaffected. Thank you for understanding.“

Die SMS mit dem folgenden Text:„You won $750,000.00 from Samsung. Send your address to: samsungdept8@gmail.com“ hatte ich am 09.08.2022 um 12:00 Uhr von der Rufnummer +22956894015 bekommen. Die Mobiltelefonnummer mit dem Ländercode +229 ist in Benin registriert, die e-mail Adresse ist laut dem Prüfdienst „Have I been Pwaned“ in Ordnung, ich hatte meinen angeblichen Gewinn von 750 000,– US Dollar trotzdem nicht angenommen, da ich weder in Benin noch in einem anderen Land an einem Gewinnspiel von Samsung teilgenommen hatte. Ich vermute es handelt sich um Spam mit dem Ziel an e-mail Adressen zu gelangen.

Im Juli 2023 hatte ich in Stargard, Polen insgesamt drei Nachrichten mit Roaming Informationen erhalten, die erste SMS mit folgenden Text:„Welcome to POLAND. Die zweite SMS informierte mit folgenden Text:„Roam freely! You can still keep using your phone in EU/UK like when in Malta. Your local rates for calls & SMS apply like when in Malta to call & SMS Maltese, EU/UK fixed & mobile numbers. Any call & SMS bundles that you may have applicable to Epic only are not avaiable whilst abroad. You can use your internet bundles whilst in the EU/UK. A rate of EUR0.99/200MB/Day applies for usage over and above your internet bundles. The rates of € 3.99/minute and € 0.49/SMS apply to call and send SMS to other non-EU/EEA countries when in EU/UK. Die dritte SMS informierte mit folgenden Text:„eck on https://bit.ly/EPICroaming for the applicable rates whlist roaming. For balance check send a FREE SMS to 16290. Should you require more info. call 0035699999247.“
Der lokale Roaming Partner war wie 2022 erneut Plus, ich hatte problemlos eine polnische Festnetznummer anrufen können.

Der Guthabenstand wird per SMS angezeigt, dazu muss man selbst eine kostenlose SMS ohne Text an 16290 senden. Die Guthabenabfrage per FREE SMS funktionierte auch in Polen, im Juni 2022 bekam ich die Nachricht:„You have EUR3.69 in your main Account.“

Die Abfrage vom Guthabenstand blieb 2023 gleich, die SMS wurde mit dem Hinweis der letzten Aufladung erweitert, im August 2023 hatte ich in Spanien die Nachricht:„You have EUR3.27 in your main Account. Last Top-up date: 17/06/2023.“

Das Guthaben hatte ich im Dezember 2022 aufgebraucht, das aktuelle Gespräch wurde einfach unterbrochen. Ich bekam am 02.12.2022 um 17:42 Uhr eine SMS mit dem folgenden Text:„Top up your credit now to buy a plan, use data, make calls and more! You can top up by visiting any Epic store or by purchasing an Epic Top-Up voucher.“
Die Abfrage des aktuellen Guthabens per SMS war ohne Guthaben teilweise nicht mehr möglich. Das Guthaben hatte ich im September 2023 erneut aufgebraucht, die Nachricht lautete:„You have EUR0.00 in your main Account. Last Top-up date: 17/06/2023.“
Guthaben aufladen / Gültigkeit vom Guthaben

Die einfachste Möglichkeit Guthaben aufzuladen ist im Internet, der Mindestbetrag beträgt 10,– €, der Maximalbetrag 50,– €.
Ich wollte im Dezember 2022 mein Guthaben aufladen, auf der Website muss man die Rufnummer im Format +35699XXXXXX eingeben, den Betrag auswählen und mit „Continue“ bestätigen. Ich bekam die Fehlermeldung „The number you have provided does not belong to a Epic customer. Please check the mobile number provided and try again.“. Die alte vodafone Nummer wurde nicht als aktuelle epic Nummer erkannt, ich konnte somit nicht aufladen. Die Aufladung im Juni 2023 wurde etwas geändert, hier ein Überblick.
– Eingabe Mobiltelefonnummer OHNE +356 Landesvorwahl, zur Sicherheit Mobiltelefonnummer erneut eingeben, den Betrag auswählen (10,– €, 15,– €, 20,– €, 30,– € oder 50,– €) und weiter mit „Continue“
– Eingabe Kreditkartendaten mit Name, Kartennummer, Gültigkeit Monat/Jahr, CVC Code und die e-mail Adresse, weiter mit „Pay €10.00“
– Weiterleitung Mastercard® ID Check meiner NiCKEL Debitcard.
– Zahlungsbestätigung im Kundenportal der NiCKEL Debitcard Mastercard®, zur zusätzlichen Sicherheit noch die Eingabe einer mobilen TAN die per SMS gesendet wurde, die Zahlung an Epic Comm. Limited im Kundenportal mit „Validar el pago“ bestätigen.
– Die Aufladung wird online mit „Top up Complete“ und einer SMS mit dem Text:„EPIC! You’ve added 9.62 to your account. 4% Excise Tax was deducted from your top-up. Download our free mobile app from https://bit.ly/3pbLBSu to keep track of your account.“ bestätigt.
– Eine e-mail mit einer PDF Datei enthält die genauen Daten zur Aufladung und die Brutto und Nettobeträge.

Gültigkeit vom Guthaben bis Ende 2023

Ich hatte am 12.12.2023 um 12:01 Uhr mehrere SMS Nachrichten mit Informationen zur Umstellung der Gültigkeit des Guthabens mit folgenden Text:„Dear Customer, As of the 11.01.2024, we will be making some changes on your prepaid terms accessible here https://www.epic.com.met/general-mobile-terms-conditions/. To keep the line connected, service runnig and your credit, simply make a call, send an SMS, top up, purchase a bundle or just use your data at least once in a 180 consecutive day period (originally 365 days). Worry not, if you don’t use your line, you will be notified via SMS 30 days before disconnection. If you disagree with this change, within 30 days, you can disconnect free of charge by visiting any Epic store or you can port-out your number by visiting any other local provider of your choice which will also result in a termination of services. If you decided to terminate your line or port out, you can submit a claim for any ...“ bekommen. Der Glütligkeitszeitraum verringerte sich also von 365 auf 180 Tage. Ich hatte noch 9,62 € Guthaben letzte Aufladung 19.09.2023.
Deaktivierung
Die Karte wird deaktiviert wenn man innerhalb von 365 Tagen (180 Tagen seit 2024) kein kostenpflichtes Gespräch, SMS oder Internet genutzt hat. Die Gültigkeit verlängert sich automatisch wieder wenn man zum Beispiel eine SMS für 0,05 € sendet.Service
